Cake FAQs

This has been a long overdue post. I like to be very upfront with those of you who want to order cakes. I try to keep my designs original and my prices reasonable. With that being said, here are a few of the most frequently asked questions in emails...

1. How much will a cake cost? Good question. Depending on the colors/design, the cake will be about $1.25-$2.00 a serving. So for example, let's say you want a fairly complex, colorful cake for 25 people. You can estimate 1.75 x 25= $43.75 for the cake.

2. Is there any additional costs? Yes. I remember when I friend wanted to order an "Ace of Cakes" cake. The delivery fee was over $1000, he said that the cakes were not available for pick up. I thought, "he's just trying to make more money- what a jerk". So I made my cakes available for pick up. UNTIL 1 day a customer came to pick up a cake- a large buttercream cake with several layers. I watched this customer plop down the cake in the backseat on top of a bunch of junk like it was a sack of potatoes. I can almost guarantee is was a mess when it got to the party. Then it's all smudged... looks like crap- and has my cards sitting with it. No more. Depending on how far you live the delivery/assembly fee will be $15-$20.

3. What is fondant? Fondant is that smooth looking sheet that goes on top of a frosted cake. It's getting to be really, really popular. Sure you can buy fondant at JoAnns or AC Moore but it smells like nail polish... I'll pass. All of my fondant is homemade- marshmallows, powdered sugar and water. That's all that's in it :)

4. What flavors are available? Pretty much anything you could think of. Some of the most popular are; Yellow, White, Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Lemon, Strawberry, Banana, Peanut Butter, Coconut and my specialty "rainbow" where the inside of the cake is vanilla but looks tye-dyed! I've done flavors like pina colada or mai tai- if you're in the mood for something specific, just ask!

5. What about fillings? Again, the possibilities are endless. A few of my favorites; Chocolate Chip buttercream, Cookies & Cream, Strawberry Mousse, Peanut Butter, Strawberry, Vanilla Cream, Fudge Cream, Lemon, Creamsicle...

6. How do I order? Shoot me an email as far in advance as possible. I need at least 2 weeks notice. Last minute orders will be considered depending on my schedule.

7. Do you make only cakes? Nope! If you want to think outside the box for your occasion, how about cupcakes? fruit arrangements? large sugar cookies on a stick? Ice cream cake (not to toot my own horn but SOOOOO yummy?

Toy Story Cake

Our friend's cute little Gracie LOVES Toy Story! This is a white cake with cookies & cream filling. All of the decorations are edible! (Except the toy characters of course)

Aquarium Cake

A 1st birthday cake for a little cutie! This cake turned out to be a lot tougher than I expected. It's easy to model cakes after other cakes but cakes after toys... that's tough. Getting shapes and colors right is a challenge. The picture below is my cake with the 1 of the birthday girl's favorite toys- her fisher price aquarium.

Rockin 1st Birthday!

This cake was for a very cute little boy's 1st birthday. How cool is a "rockstar" theme for a party? The cake was 1 tier white cake, 1 tier chocolate and both had cookies & cream filling. I asked the mom to send me a picture of the guitar her husband plays and tried my hardest to recreate it out of fondant.

Bob Pants!!!

My 18 month old is OBSESSED with spongebob right now, he calls him "Bob Pants or Bob Pee". He had a playdate with some of his cousins and friends so we decided to bring some sugar cookies!
